EDUCATIONAL POLICY

Educational goals and three basic principles

Takushoku University has set three educational goals in accordance with its founding philosophy. These goals are embodied by the three basic policies below, which are designed to raise the quality of education and ensure international competitiveness by providing a framework for producing well-rounded, internationally minded graduates with a high level of specialist expertise.

Educational policy

  • To give students the flexibility of understanding and the depth of receptiveness required to coexist and build mutual trust with all races and ethnicities of the world
  • To equip students with the insight and decisiveness to calmly and precisely get to the heart of matters and act with conviction amid the rapidly changing conditions faced in Japan and abroad
  • To cultivate enterprising, practically minded individuals equipped with the intellectual and physical capabilities to proactively confront and solve the challenges facing human society

Three basic principles for the bachelor’s degree program

1. Diploma policy

Takushoku University aims to produce well-rounded, internationally minded graduates with a high level of expertise that reflects the educational goals and founding philosophy of the University. Bachelor’s degrees are awarded to students who have acquired the required qualifications and competence as listed below and met the diploma policy specified by the relevant department.

  • International mindset

    The students have a full understanding of societies of diverse peoples around the world and their own community with the flexibility to respect others. They can work together with people around the world and people in their home country to discover problems and overcome challenges.

  • Expertise

    The students acquire basic knowledge in their areas of specialization to discover and resolve problems by using their knowledge in the actual field of study.

  • Humanity

    The students set their own goals and proactively take action to realize their goals in consideration of the feelings and ideas of others. Students can accurately express their feelings and ideas and exchange opinions.

2. Curriculum policy

Takushoku University organizes a sequential and systematic curriculum to ensure that students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competence based on the three qualities of well-rounded, internationally minded graduates with a high level of specialist expertise according to the diploma policy.

  • Curricula

    The curricula are systematically organized as cultural education subjects, specialized subjects, and other subjects by accordingly combining lectures, practices, and self learning. The curricula also incorporate initial year education for adapting to the University, acquiring learning skills, and developing study plans, along with career education. In addition, students will improve communication and other skills while at the University.

  • Education method

    Depending on the subject, project-based learning (PBL) and active learning are actively incorporated to proactively promote student participation.

  • Evaluation

    The evaluation criteria for each subject are defined in the lecture guidelines. In addition, the curricula shall constantly be refined through a combination of evaluations of student classes and the educational and research performance of the faculty.

3. Admission policy

Takushoku University aims to foster global talent (Takushoku talent) who are equipped with resilient human skills and a global perspective. Graduates are willing to work with people from home and abroad with the goal of discovering and proactively resolving challenges. To nurture such individuals, Takushoku University accepts individuals with strong personalities who have a sense of purpose and the motivation to study at the University. To enroll at Takushoku University, students must meet the following admission criteria:

  • Students learn a wide range of high school curricula.

  • The students have a sense of purpose and the willingness to succeed in society by employing the knowledge and experience obtained from the department and faculty where they wish to enroll.

  • Students can organize thoughts appropriately and express ideas in an easily understood manner.

For admission screening, the competence and qualities of prospective students are comprehensively screened through the combination of a written academic test, individual academic screening, school report, interview, and essay.

Three basic policies

1. Admission policy

Our policy is to select and accept individuals with strong personalities who have the drive to succeed in an international learning environment and are highly motivated to learn. In line with this, we welcome applicants, wherever they may be in the world regardless of age and gender who embody the following:

  • Understand and have an interest in the University’s founding philosophy
  • Support the concept of developing students in line with the University’s educational goals
  • Seek to acquire advanced specialist knowledge and skills

2. Curriculum policy

Each faculty shall create its own curriculum to equip students with a wide range of highly specialized knowledge, skills, and problem-solving abilities in a systematic and progressive way in line with the University’s founding philosophy.

  • Curricula shall be designed to improve communication skills.
  • Curricula shall be constantly refined through a combination of student class evaluation and evaluation of the educational and research performances of the faculty (taking into consideration their contributions to society at the University and beyond as well as their teaching of class subjects and research papers).
  • To facilitate student study, most classes are taught on a semester basis by dividing the year into two and awarding academic credits in each half. Class times are also arranged to make it easier for business people and adults in full-time employment to enter graduate school.

3. Diploma policy

Master’s and doctoral degrees are awarded to students who have taken classes to acquire a wide range of specialized knowledge, skills, and problem-solving abilities (as well as classes that foster the essential knowledge that all Takushoku University students must possess), earned the prescribed number of academic credits after a rigorous grading and evaluation process, and passed the prescribed thesis examination.
